Fatima and Fulton Sheen

Fatima:  Part 1
Fulton Sheen opens this talk with a description of  three major events which occurred on October 13, 1917 in three separate countries, the supernatural timing of which becomes readily apparent:

  • Moscow: The revolution is imminent.  Lenin sends troops (horsemen) into the church of the Iberian Virgin, killing many of the 200 children who were inside receiving religious instruction;
  • Rome:  Eugenio Pacelli is being consecrated as a Bishop; he is later to become Pope Pius XII;
  • Fatima:  The Miracle of the Sun takes place.

Fatima: Part II
Fulton Sheen continues, with a brief description of what took place during the Miracle of the Sun at Fatima on October 13, 1917.  He relates how Fatima became a gathering place for people from all over the world who came to pray, make sacrifices and do reparation.  He goes on to tell how on October 13, 1951, he himself was at Fatima with one million pilgrims, who stayed up all night in the pouring rain to do penance and pray for world peace.  He describes how Warner Brothers was there that night, in order to film the movie.

Fatima: Part 3
In this final segment we are shown the scene from the movie, “Our Lady of Fatima”, in which the Miracle of the Sun occurs.  Miracles took place in the crowd as well.  We hear Our Lady tell the children that she is the Lady of the Rosary, and that in the end God will triumph.  We then go to the event which took place on October 13, 1951, where one million people were paying homage and waving white flags of peace at the basilica in Fatima.  Fulton Sheen emotionally describes how he felt as he watched those one million people wave white flags to the Lady of Peace, and how he could not help but compare this image of the white square of Fatima to the Red Square of Moscow.  Prophetically, he describes how he could see in his mind’s eye a great change come over the hammer and the sickle.  He could see the hammer being held aloft by millions of men and looking now like a Cross.  He saw the sickle change its figure and symbolism, becoming the moon under the Lady’s feet, as in the Book of Revelation.
